Pop It Cause It's Haute

Your walls will shout thanks to this new line of wild and witty wallpaper.

Before you go judging me, I don't normally get excited by things like wallpaper. That is, until I came across a company called Pottok (pronounced "poh-tea-ock"). Los Angeles-based graphic artist, filmmaker, and former art director of the Beastie Boys' defunct magazine, Geoff McFetridge hand prints original silk-screened designs (which come in a Skittles rainbow of color options and feature everything from cartoon apples to Bigfoot) on recyclable paper using water-based inks and no chemical preservatives—so his work is cute and environmentally friendly to boot.

Feel like you recognize McFetridge's aesthetic? After checking out his first solo exhibition at George's in the late '90s, Sofia Coppola commissioned the CalArts graduate to create the title graphics for "The Virgin Suicides." Over the next few years he continued to exhibit his drawings, graphic posters and sculptures, but the installations also included image-based patterns on fabric or wallpaper—he'd cover a sofa in one of his cool designs, and then throw the same unique print in a frame. People responded to his simple patterns because they seemed to tell an interesting story, and thus there was an immediate demand to take these engaging pieces home, too.

Now, thanks to McFetridge the walls of your apartment can be swimming in cartoon little whales, a Where's Waldo-esque sea of urbanites, or an entire forest of dead trees (which is much less morbid looking than it sounds). Bold and visually daring, for sure, but methinks these prints are just what the design doctor ordered to spark up your space!
