Rocks Your World

From St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow to New York's Chrysler Building, a new collection of bling takes you around the world in 12 different ways.

Some people bring a camera with them everywhere when they go on vacation. Others mark their experiences by keeping some sort of travel journal. Personally, I like to find a special article of clothing at a tucked away boutique or in a flea market—something that sums up my journey and that I know I won't be able to find anywhere else. Emerging accessories designer Matina Sujhahuta (who has previously created one-of-kind pieces for Aussie cult label, Sretsis) takes my approach one step farther with "Globetrotters," her charming new collection of cocktail rings inspired by the architecture of some of the world's greatest cities.

"I've got ideas from traveling around the world," this Central Saint Martins/Parsons School of Design alumni explains. "I've noticed how traditions and cultures shape each city and make them unique. But it was only recently that I noticed how a certain architecture tells a beautiful tale of the city it resides. The rings encapsulate the buildings and the feelings, reminding me what memories and dreams were made during my visits."

With the current economy crisis, a practical fashion maven has got to make cuts everywhere she can. Who wants to spend their hard-earned bones traveling the world when you can have a visual "best-of" right on your fingertips? No one needs to know a pretty bauble is the closest you've ever come to the Kremlin.

Matina Amanita is available at Milk, 8209 West Third Street, (323) 951-0330.
