Can't Live Without 'Em

Look long, lean and completely chic? We think we've seen the light.

A monochromatic palette of geometric patterns with the occasional splash of dusky pink might not scream Miami nightlife to you, but that's just because you haven't experienced LIFEwithBIRD yet. The Spring/Summer 2008 collection from this emerging womenswear label, entitled "White Light" is like the perfect rock 'n roll ditty—sugary sweet with a hint of a dark side lurking beneath the surface. Not that I'd expect anything less from a duo that includes Bridget McCall (sister of famed Aussie designer, Alice McCall), a stylist and photographer who honed her sartorial chops working for cool British magazines like i-D and The Face.

So what's the inspiration behind all of these slouchy, effortlessly cool pieces that I'm crowing about? Well light, obviously, but in particular the interplay between light and shade in an overarching examination that ends in complete (and totally sexy!) darkness. The limited use of color only furthers the collection's fresh and clean aesthetic, while details like ladylike pleats and the occasional hint of metallic shine or sequin sparkle help the superfine silk jersey knits maintain a subtle edge.

Sure, standing in line outside of a club is never fun, but take it from me—you'll have much better odds of slipping past the gatekeeper at your favorite hip haunt of the moment if you're wearing one of these flattering designs...or at least look a lot cooler while doing it!
