Rebel Rebel
A pop-up shop debuts a specially madeand perfectly rationalcollection from an L.A. brand swathed in effortless cool.
Once upon a 19th century time, restrictive corsetry and umpteen pounds of underwear rendered women virtually immobile while deforming their precious bodies. Then came the Rational Dress Societya troop of feminists vehemently opposed to conventional fashion normsto shake things up. In a tribute to these fierce femmes, and for our delightful indulgence, L.A. designer Corinne Grassini created a collection of completely covet-worthy silk dresses and tops under emerging label Society for Rational Dress.
And since its 2005 runway debut at our New Garde show, SfRD has since gained serious fashion-world momentum. Grassini's academic undergraduate studies left her thinking she'd be a sign language interpreter, but her knack for designing clothes ended up proving more than just a hobby. Collection after collection, she exhibits her gift for creating fluid, flowing, layered and asymmetrical silhouettes that possess a natural effortlessnesslike you just woke up wearing it, and voila!somehow, all eyes are on you. The oversized, delicate silk draping that defines her collections often contrasts with tough leather straps and hardware, allowing many of her pieces to be individually adjusted and transformed by the wearer. Her signature racerback tanks with exaggerated arm holes fall long and loose, exposing expertly detailed strap designs, and, um, a sexy rear view.
But the best is yet to come: L.A.-ers have special access to a collection designed specifically for the influential Satine Boutique: the Satine by Corinne Grassini Collection, which includes nine of her signature day-to-night tops and dresses as well as an mini-assortment of bags, belts, and vests. This limited time only pop-up shop opens doors tomorrow at Satine's West 3rd street location, so pop in and have a look-seeyou'll thank us later.
