Here Comes the Son

How many boys does it take to make the perfect spring dress? Just two, it seems.

This time of year always makes me crave two seasonal indulgences to excess—Cadbury Creme Eggs and pretty, ethereal dresses. Luckily, JF and Son, a new line of womenswear, has emerged to help me get my modern frock fix. I'll have to hit up Eckerd to satiate the other.

A collaboration between New York-bred Jesse Finkelstein and Robert Cordero, the line embraces a structured aesthetic that coyly hints at a girlish innocence. "We tend to focus on form, material and function, but not at the risk of losing whimsy or imagination," Finkelstein explains. "It's important that the clothes reflect a balance between play and antagonism." In other words, their clothes walk the line.

Their new collection for Spring/Summer 2008 features a muted mix of body-conscious dresses and separates, with the occasional pop of bright yellow, blue or red thrown in to crank up the drama factor. Necklines are modest, waistlines are nipped, hemlines are sky high—these are dresses made for the springiest of flings.

Wearable confections that are tastier than chocolate? Now that's something to get egg-cited about.

JF and Son will be available at Big Drop in the Gansevoort South, 2377 Collins Avenue.
