Kaleidoscopic Hooks

"We're literally saying what our unconscious is telling us to say." - Andrew Hung

I'll be the first to admit that part of why I love U.K. electro duo F*ck Buttons is their edgy, don't say this around your mom, name. But these fresh-faced boys from Bristol (Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power), who originally bonded over their shared nihilistic-noise tendencies, have developed a rabid fan base for an even better reason: For some inexplicable reason, their strange music makes people happy. And they're highly-anticipated debut full-length, Street Horssing, which drops tomorrow, drives this point home. Why? Its unique fusion of melody, distorted vocals and tribal rhythms will blow your mind—it manages to provoke and amuse the listener.

Yes, they're a little out there. Proof positive, when asked to describe their sound in three words, Hung chooses "hopeful", "loud", and "free". Power's response? "Planet earth, screaming." And then there's the fact that when they first joined forces back in 2004, their goal was to make music that would be "something that would be painful to people's ears." But they're also down to earth dudes who count YouTube and Guitar Hero 3 among their guilty pleasures and include hummus and pita bread on their concert rider. So, like all twenty-something males, they're pretty complicated.

They're also heading out on tour this spring with Candian indie rockers, Caribou, and they'll be hitting Ft. Lauderdale's Culture Room on April 5th. Check out two of the tracks from the new album on their MySpace page now (including the first single, "Bright Tomorrow") and click here to grab your tickets for the show!

Culture Room is located at 3045 North Federal Highway, (954) 564-1074.
