Socks in the City

Pull a Carrie Bradshaw and beat the winter chill (when and if gets here) with a pair of red-haute tights.

So far this winter, it has been unseasonably warm. But don't be fooled. In preparation of the inevitable snow that I'm convinced lies in our not-so-distant future, I'm stocking up on luxe thigh-highs and tights while the gettin's still good, and if you're smart, you will follow my lead.

My suggestion for keeping those gams nice and toasty? Put down those stuffy Wolfords and pick up stockings from Parisian native Gaspard Yurkievich, an avant-garde designer known for his over-the-top runway presentations and youthful, energetic pieces. Thanks to embellishments like hand-drawn images of butterflies, funky block and dot patterns, and dramatic front and back seams, his legwear demands to be noticed—the kind of accessory you can't wait to slip into and plan your entire outfit around. There are even glittery lurex knee-highs in a bright purple hue for the more daring.

And even if I'm wrong about the big freeze ahead, Sarah Jessica Parker was recently spotted sporting thigh-high stockings on the set of the "Sex and the City" movie, which ensures you're going to be seeing this look everywhere in a few months...better to beat those other fashionistas to the punch than have to join them come spring!

Gaspard Yurkievich is available at Jumelle, 148 Bedford Avenue, or online here.
