Songs from Candyland

Our Fresh Faces in Fashion alums create a playlist to match their girly, dance-'til-dawn frocks.

The first time we ever saw Alison Lewis and Rachel Antonoff of Mooka Kinney, we were smitten. It was at a rooftop party during fashion week, and they were both dressed in pieces from the fall collection, one accessorized with a flirty feather in her hair, the other, a jaunty hat. Their bangs: perfect. We wanted to be them. While that might not be possible (and is kind of "Single White Female"), we can scoop up pieces from their fall line at Barneys CO-OP, and listen to some of their favorite tunes, which they've provided below. Grab one of their dresses, crank up the jams, and don't be surprised when you fall for them, too!

Capgun coup, "My tears cure cancer"
This band is from Nebraska and totally amazing. We love anything that sounds like it is from the '50s.
Steel Train, "Dakota"
This song is so pretty—like the rest of the album—but this song especially is perfect to put on a mixed tape that you're making for a boy you like.
Lindsey Buckingham and Carol Ann Harris, "It Was I"
We just read Carol Ann Harris' biography about her time in Fleetwood Mac's inner circle. We got so sucked in that we found this song where she sings backup.
Fleetwood Mac, "What Makes You Think You're the One"
Again, totally obsessed with Fleetwood Mac. The book focused on the time when they were writing and recording Tusk, so listening to the songs is really interesting.
The Crystals, "Then He Kissed Me"
We also just read Phil Spector's biography. This has always been a favorite and brings us back to our "Adventures In Babysitting" days.
Tilly and the Wall, "Rainbows in the Dark"
One of our favorite bands—they use a tap dancer instead of drums and their songs are so fun and celebratory and make anyone want to dance.
Au Revoir Simone, "The Lucky One"
They sing about sunshine and happiness and use keyboards to create a really melodic sound. The perfect music to dream to.
Yoko Ono and Cat Power, "Revelations"
This remake of Yoko Ono's song has Cat Power singing and beautiful piano in the background. One of those songs that makes you want to be a better person.
Rilo Kiley, "Under the Blacklight"
We love Jenny Lewis. Her band's new album is super catchy and this song especially has really stuck with us.
The Format, "Time Bomb"
This song is so upbeat and fun that it's really hard not to sing along. Great harmonies, too.

Barneys CO-OP is located at 189 The Grove Drive, Suite S-10, (323) 761-5255.
