Backstage Access to Fresh Faces
Go behind the scenes at one of indie fashion's most-anticipated Fashion Week events!
It's our 13th Annual Fresh Faces in Fashion show at the Manhattan Center. Taxis are on strike and a crosstown cab ride will cost you just about as much as a stretch hummer. Inside we have twelve designers, thirteen ECRU stylists, nineteen MAC artists, thirty backstage staff members, and well over a thousand attendees. Everyone, their assistant and Cory Kennedy is here.
Everyone but the models, that is.
Twenty minutes to go, and we are still missing six girls in transit from shows all over town. With cabs scarce and car services booked solid, we scramble to make substitutions. Suddenly Pinkie rushes over from Vena Cava, Baptiste skids in from Adam + Eve and lightning-fast teams from ECRU and MAC get to work.
Fifteen minutes to go and miraculously four more models barrel in.
Two minutes left and we're in a cloud of hairspray, with designers fussing over the clothes and makeup artists at the ready for final touches.
Lights up. Music up. Model GO! We begin with Delphyne Guiraud's crisp and sophisticated looks. Grace Sun's feminine designs appear one by one to Run DMC anthems. Dagmar models storm the runway to Pantera. A-Z guys scramble into their looks while Klaxons play. Mooka Kinney girls go parking and get caught smoking in the bathroom. Whistle & Flute models traipse out in neutrals and shades of melon. Young Meagher sends out masked men to melodic sounds and Bensoni finishes it all with clean looks in shades of blue and gray.
Phew. Now take me to the after-party.
