Where The Wild Things Are

Susie Ghahremani's new solo show won't make you feel like a suck up!

Want to get crafty sometimes? If you can't drag yourself to Pearl Paint, get a vicarious thrill and stop by Giant Robot instead for RISD graduate Susie Ghahremani's solo show, Teacher's Pets. On view until September 12, the recently relocated illustrator, musician and craftster will show nearly 200 paintings, soft sculptures, unframed line drawings, wood pieces and miniatures.

Ghahremani's ongoing (and totally charming) interest in the personification of animals is clear in her depictions of domesticated wildlife and imaginary creatures. Pulse got the back story: "As I began painting for this show, the collection seemed to reflect my own hobbies, skills and interests in my animal portraits. So, the title and theme evolved very naturally." Now you know that the birds and bears playing piano, making origami and riding bikes are doing some of her favorite things!

If we haven't convinced you to get your lazy bum off the couch, at least check out Ghahremani's Web site, where you can purchase t-shirts, prints, stationery, tote bags and other goodies that she's dreamed up—and probably do a little damage on the credit card. Just don't keep this up and coming talent a secret. Give your friends in other cities a heads up that Ghahremani will be at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago from September 15th to the 16th and at Giant Robot's San Francisco outpost in November with another solo show.
