Must-Have Playlist: Earlimart

Fresh from recording their fifth album in Eagle Rock, Earlimart gives you a quirky playlist to download now.

There's no doubt about it; Earlimart is a quintessential California band. They were born in Silver Lake, reinvented in Eagle Rock, and even their name is homegrown, taken from a small town nestled on the 99 between Fresno and Bakersfield. Their unique brand of indie rock—melodic, drowsy, and at times melancholy—shines under lead singer Aaron Espinoza's breathy vocals on their newly released album, Mentor Tormentor.

We asked your hometown heroes to create a playlist for the listening pleasure of the folks at home. Download it here and mark your calendars for October 24th, when they'll be back in town at the Troubadour.

Depeche Mode, "Never Let Me Down Again"
How many hooks can be crammed into one song?
Carpenters, "Superstar"
Another beautiful stalker song disguised as a sad '70s love song.
Castledoor, "The Bird and the Fleas"
Here come the young turks!
Charlotte Gainsbourg, "The Operation"
The greatest song about surgery since Weird Al took a stab at it.
Frankel, "Tooth Decay"
This guy's so good we had to steal him for ourselves.
The Good the Bad & the Queen, "History Song"
The whole record is filled with creaks, cracks, pops, and drowsy dub.
Jay-Z, "Public Service Announcement (Interlude)"
This ain't a movie, dog.
Aesop Rock, "Coffee"
One large coffee, fuck you, peace.
Magnetic Fields, "(Crazy For You But) Not That Crazy"
A perfect song to accompany your budding maturity in relationships.
Paul McCartney, "Dear Boy"
Ram is an incredible record, but this song takes the cake with the vocal backups by Linda and company.
