Music Nation Pick of the Week

Meet Music Nation, a national online video-based music contest for the best and brightest unsigned artists in rock, pop and urban music from across the United States. Each week we'll bring you our favorite video from the site, along with an interview with the up and coming band.

Be sure to surf around on Music Nation to discover your own new favorite bands, too. Read on for the interview with North Carolina rockers The Campaign 1984, an emerging band we think you should keep your eye on!

So, who are you musical heroes?
We appreciate so many different groups and artists, and the status they have earned. We admire the cult following of punk acts such as the Misfits and Bad Religion, whose fans' devotion borders on religious fanaticism. But we also appreciate the superstar status of acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns 'N Roses, and Led Zeppelin, who have burned their legends into the history of rock and roll.

Which filmmakers are you inspired by?
Vincent Gallo, Clive Barker, the Cohen Brothers, and Sam Raime. We love the grittier side of things. We love unpolished product. It gives everything a real edge. There is such thing as over-production in our opinion. Also, we love multifaceted work. When a film or filmmaker makes you take a second or third look, without being pretentious, they are doing something very right. But, in contrast, we see that there is no reason to take yourself so seriously. Sometimes life just needs to be funny.

What do you want your music and visuals to say about your band?
We like to call our music "Dirty South Rock and Roll". We think that's the best way to describe us. We're not a polished pop act, nor do we want to be. We all grew up with our parents playing country music and roots rock 'n roll on the radio, while East Bay-style punk music was providing us with a new outlook on life.
