Notes from a Globetrotter

When Gen Art's fashionista friend, Kasia Dietz told us she was taking off on a journey around the world, we asked her to write us a few notes about the experience. (What can we say? We were hoping for a little vicarious vacay glow!) Read on below:

I am falling in love with the world. A profound love for people and cultures and all the spaces they fill, which have now become my spaces
as I pass through them most graciously, and with great reverence. I have taken to the world of travel, or rather, it has taken me.

My journey began in Buenos Aires, a city that speaks to my soul, with it's tangled cobblestone streets and grand edifices reminiscent of an old Europe with a new energy. My days were spent carousing in eclectic neighborhoods filled with stylish eateries and trendy boutiques. All the while tango filled the summer air, a dance indicative of the dynamic between these passionate Latinos.

Following many days and nights spent enamored of the Latin lands of South America, I crossed the sea to the South Pacific. The love affair continued in Queenstown, amidst the most splendid natural landscapes of New Zealand. Every morning I awoke to the sight of mountains which left me with a feeling of complete freedom and immeasurable peace. This is where I experienced the sensation of flight, at least for a moment, 12,000 feet above a vista from which dreams are born.

India was not a place but a feeling. The heart unequivocally reigns in this country of contrasts, at once revealing royal grandeur and incomparable poverty. The lands of Rajasthan exhibit much of the elegance that once ruled this region. The pink of Jaipur, gold of Jaisalmer and blue of Jodhpur contributed to a wondrous journey into a history of colors. India added many layers of richness to the composition of my life.

My voyage continued into Southeast Asia, where I took residence in cities filled with temples, striding in silence alongside saffron-clad monks. This Buddhist calm was most evident and remarkable in Luang Prabang, a small city in the north of Laos. To walk the streets felt like I was stepping back in time, yet there was a culinary finery and mild feeling of modernity that satisfied the more refined palate.

I am now indulging in the artistic splendors of Ubud, on the island of Bali. A moment of respite as I reflect on the many lives I have begun and those that have not yet found me in the eagerly anticipated days ahead. This is perhaps the most venerable time, the middle of a journey that has opened my eyes to an unimaginable world that has become my home.
