City Guide
Local band Hey Champ offer up their favorite Chicago spots
Dance masters Hey Champ have been on the road with their new label's headmaster Lupe Fiasco for the past month—and they're missing their hometown hard. And while Saam, Jon and Pete are having a blast college hopping, they're eager to get back to Chicago to "finish their album, sleep in increments greater than 1.5 hours, freeze their asses off in their frigid studio" and stop by some of their favorite spots in the windy city.
Music
Metro and Smart Bar have great sound systems, and are fun to go see acts and play at. Kstarke Records is where we can adequately satiate our lust for rare disco and Italo vinyl.
Art
Phaiz gallery, because they pay us to DJ really cool parties.
Revelry
We're really not picky nor especially loyal when it comes to our watering holes. But we have to give a shout out to the Burwood Tap. Their three dollar u-call-its and free food are a godsend to the impoverished.
Sustenance
Sultan's chicken shawarma with one piece of falafel, substitute tabouli for Jerusalem salad and add mad hot sauce. Let's just call that Jonathan's Special, he can walk in to Sultan's and they'll make it without him asking.
Apparel
Belmont Army Navy has great kicks.
Hey Champ play tonight at Moonshine on 1824 West Division Street; 773-862-8686.
