The Postelles
Danny, Billy, John and David sing catchy songs about girls and literature. And we can't stop bopping our heads.
The Postelles list Motown as a big influence. No surprise there. From their innocent life-is-actually-quite-lovely lyrical content to their sweet crooning style, this young quartet has got the soulful vibe down pat, and the NYC music scene is catching on.
"A few years ago we played at a tiny venue called Sidewalk Cafe. Albert [Hammond Jr.] happened to be hanging out there and checked out our show. When he heard a demo of our song "123 Stop," he said he'd love to produce," says David, the band's guitarist.
A Stroke walks into a bar, and the rest is history. This is the kind of rags to riches story that can only happen in New York City. Of course, it helps that all four members grew up in Manhattan and are well versed on the island's scene—which for the most part, they love being a part of, but sometimes their youth gets in the way.
"There are advantages and disadvantages to being young on the scene. Listeners look at you with more excitement and open ears. The disadvantages are more behind-the-scenes...older bands don't respect you as much and already have groups of bands they're friends with. I guess it's sort of like high school. The older bands are the seniors and we're the freshmen," says Daniel, the lead singer.
Screw seniority. I can't wait to swarm the stage and swoon along with the rest of their adoring fans.
The Postelles play Santos Party House on October 28th. Check out their live session on woozyfly.com/genart.
