Sister, Sister
Five new jewelry lines prove that when it comes to accessories, two related heads are next to none.
It all started with Gen Art fashion program alumni Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, a pair of talented sisters who joined creative forces to launch a line that has consistently wowed critics since debuting in 2005. Now it seems like everywhere I turn there's a stylish sister act churning out beautiful things for me to covet—particularly in the accessories arena. Below, a few of my favorite sororal discoveries.
1. Cosa Fina Jewelry
Organic pieces featuring raw, uncut gemstones married with sleek, polished metal smithing are at the heart of Karina Kuhary and Ninette Paloma's collection of modern rings and necklaces.
2. Lizzie Fortunato
New York-based twin sisters Elizabeth and Kathyrn Fortunato create vintage-inspired pieces that are heavy on embellishments and Lower East Side-flare; our alums Whistle & Flute used their accessories in their runway show!
3. DanniJo Jewels
While Danielle and Jodie Snyder might not share the same personal style, their bold new line (which is a favorite of Natalie Portman) seamlessly fuses ladylike looks with pieces that possess a more playful edge.
4. Ianneci Jewelry Design
Jennifer and Kimberly Gennace, the bead-loving sisters behind this Chicago-based line, create sparkling, feminine pieces that easily make the transition from day to evening.
5. Tipton & Downing
OK, married duo Amy and Matt Owens aren't sisters, but they are both twins which kind of counts; their quirky pendant necklaces—which feature everything from parasols to skunks—have a subtle, retro charm.
