Working Girls, Work It

Ladylike looks that are coy and cubicle compatible.

There are some things that L.A.-based designers know how to do best—like creating warm weather-friendly frocks that are adorable enough to wear on a post-work date but still completely office appropriate; pieces that successfully toe that blurry line between flirty and elegant, but have enough fashion-forward flare to make your ensemble the envy-filled talk of the water cooler.

Ashley Ann, a former Hollywood wardrobe stylist and the emerging designer behind Myne, does just that with her 2-year-old line. Inspired by vintage fashion, people watching and the glamor that's inherent in her Tinseltown zip code, Ann has created a well-edited collection of reinvented classics for Fall 2008 that stole my heart, and I'm betting the farm that it will do the same thing to yours. From a sky-high pleated skirt that hits your thighs just so to a frilly purple dress that could make anyone instantly hourglass, soft, silky pieces in fiercely feminine cuts reign supreme.

My favorite item of the bunch, the polished CeeCee jumper, is a girlie number with a short hemline and perfectly-placed pockets that can easily be dressed up or down depending on what you decide to throw on underneath—although I'd recommend one of Ann's slightly transparent silk tops. It's no wonder some of our favorite Hollywood starlets, like Sophia Bush and Vanessa Munillo, find that when it comes to deciding what to wear around town (which quite frankly is part of their job) Myne is one line that's nearly impossible to resist.

So go ahead and give in to your secret desire to play the office flirt. Just don't nab the cute-as-a-button jumper—that piece is all mine!

Myne is available at Barneys, 634 Collins Avenue, (305) 531-5950.
