Shiny Happy Clothing
This debut collection of handmade pieces is the fashion equivalent of a cool glass of lemonade.
When Parsons graduate Anna Kim decided to launch her own line of handmade womenswear she wanted to name it after something that would put a smile on the wearer's face. That's how she landed on the moniker Lemonstory, because the color yellow usually makes her feel bright and warm when she sees it.
"I always wanted to be an artist and fabric was my most favorite object to work with," the Brooklyn-based designer explains. "Clothing is the piece of art that we position closest to the human body. It changes the look, the character, and the mind of the person who is wearing it." Once the sketches for her debut collection were completed, Kim's choice to peddle her uniquely homespun frocks through an online marketplace like Etsy was a virtual no-brainer.
"The great thing about it is that I can communicate with customers about what they want and what they like. I try to take individual requests and make the best piece for each person every time." Translation: you can score a bespoke dress at a wallet-friendly price point. Are you smiling yet?
While the inspiration for the current collection of sweetly feminine tops and dresses was the idea of adolescence, ultimately Kim's goal is to create clothes that are unique, wearable and timeless: "When I make clothes I like to think about the customer opening up a package, trying on a piece and loving it forever and ever."
Sounds like something you might have written in a high school yearbook.
