Red Hot Gallery Crawl

Beat the soaring summertime highs with some seriously chill art.

You've already suffered through a grueling few days at the Pitchfork Music Festival and countless steamy afternoons of sweating it out at Wrigley Field and Millennium Park. Rather than secretly pining for your air-conditioned office when you should be yucking it up this weekend, take a tip from us and hit up one of the five emerging art shows below!

1. Work by Linda Ingraham @ Ogilvie/Pertl (7/25 - 9/4)
This mixed media artist manipulates photographs of natural objects, mounts them on wood panels, adds some oil paint and then coats the entire thing with resin, giving the final product a waxy, surreal feel.

2. Book & Paper Arts Triennial (7/25 - 9/12)
Over fifty innovative works from the papermaking and artists' book genre will be on display including a ceiling-to-floor dangling sculpture and a book that is "written" entirely in broken glass.

3. Heri Dono: Pleasures of Chaos @ Walsh Gallery (7/25 - 8/23)
Clashing fantastical figures (think spacemen, clowns and angry robots) inhabit the colorful and quirky acrylic-on-canvas paintings by this Indonesia-born and based emerging artist.

4. Button-O-Matic (ongoing)
Who doesn't love a cute button? And if it's artist-designed, limited-edition and glows in the dark? Sold! The latest Busy Beaver Button-O-Matic Series should definitely please the backpack-loving masses.

5. Boys of Summer @ Monique Meloche Gallery (Now - 8/2)
This multimedia group show focuses on themes of masculinity and includes a piece by Nick Cave (the local performance artist, not the Bad Seed) and a timely shout out to Barack Obama from icon-obsessed painter, Zane Lewis.
