Hallo, Berlin

Accessible avant garde looks that toe the line between day and night...suddenly life is a cabaret.

In recent years, the Berlin fashion scene has become a hotbed for emerging design talent—names like Kaviar Gauche or Mongrels in Common, spring to mind. Add to that growing list Boessert/Schorn, a young label making a name for itself thanks to wearable pieces with a welcome dose of subversive detail. Not that we'd expect anything less in a gritty city with a thriving creative community that's earning comparisons to New York back in it's '80s heyday.

And fittingly, we can picture style icons from that time period—like Blondie or even Madonna—looking right at home in the avant frocks from the Spring/Summer 2008 collection. With a focus on draped silhouettes in a subdued color palette, these deconstructed downtown looks are subtly cool, but decidedly pretty (especially the lightweight lattice scarves). By cutting lace-like patterns into jersey material; using elaborate needlework to simulate patching; or even resorting to old school methods, like macrame, Sonia Boessert and Brigitte Schorn, the design duo behind the line, create a casual chic pieces that feel fresh and unique.

Whether you throw on one of their easy dresses with a pair of gladiator sandals for a casual weekend ensem, or fancy them up with leggings and some heels for a laid back night out on the town, in Bossert/Schorn, you'll look effortlessly Euro chic—and these days, what could be more Berlin than that?
