Triple Threat

A debut collection is the shoe equivalent of your favorite pair of Cheap Monday jeans.

Hipster boys and girls take heed: I've found the perfect emerging line of unisex kicks for your effortlessly cool spring wardrobe. Los Angeles-based 3:33 Footwear offers three clean but funky styles in three different materials (ergo the name?) for the "new global underground"—everything is handcrafted in Portugal using the finest quality materials, guaranteeing that while your shoes might look delightfully worn-in, they're actually built to last.

"It's straight from my brain onto paper of what I think cool shoes should look like," explains the brand's founder, pro skater Andrew Reynolds. "It's kind of a cross between a house slipper, moccasins and an old pair of your favorite sneakers all mashed into one line of shoes... hopefully it will make people look down at their feet and say, 'Damn, these are exactly what I've been looking for!'"

While my personal favorite is the "Hugh" slip-on sneaker in a rich burgundy hue (no pun intended), embellishments like stitching, zippers and snaps make the "Floppy" a fun, slightly more polished choice, for the discerning sneaker freak. If you're looking to steal the show, your only choice is the "Lo-Top" in an eye-popping red plaid—all you need is a pair of black skinnies and you're totally set for that Saturday night loft party in SoMa.

When it comes to shoes, these little numbers prove that sometimes simple really is the best.

3:33 Footwear is available at Villains, 1653 Haight Street, (415) 626-5939, or online at revolveclothing.com.
