A Design Star Is Born

Cozy up to a Singapore import that's going to change the way you look at the female form.

Penetrating the American market is a test for any designer regardless of their international success. éWOMB, a new collection of womenswear is making its way stateside after taking Singapore by storm for years. Designer K-Mi Huang, a graduate of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, decided to pack up her trophies (among them an award from the Mercedes-Benz Singapore Fashion Festival) and head our way with her cutting edge, architectural pieces.

éWOMB's Spring/Summer 2008 collection, "One," is full of the joie de vivre that made her line a must-have for Singapore girls. Using a soft color palette and experimental printing techniques, Huang has created a complete wardrobe for the modern avant girl. Inspired by the journey of life, her pieces use "colors that represent emotions, prints that speak of sophistication and texture that suggest a lover's touch." The end result is original and edgy, without sacrificing the female form for shock value.

With a story behind every piece in the Spring collection, whether you chose the wide leg trouser or a seemingly simple black dress that hits just at the knees and can be worn several ways, Huang's passion for innovation coupled with practicality is obvious. "éWomb is a concept that is about protection for women," she notes. "It represents warmth; allowing us to move around comfortably."

Sounds cozy. Looks amazing.

éWOMB is available at Ibiza New York, 46 University Place, (212) 533-4614.
