There Will Be Oscars

Impress your friends with your wealth of knowledge about this Oscar frontrunner.

It's nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. So you probably don't need me to tell you to go check out "There Will Be Blood." But just in case you're sitting on the fence, or like me, have been putting it off because the idea of a bunch of guys hanging out on an 80-foot oil derrick just doesn't scream must-see flick, here it is folks: This was the best film of 2007. (Sorry "Juno" and "Superbad." You know how much I love you.) And here are five things I think will make it even more interesting when you see it—if that's possible.

P.T. and the Altman
The credits reveal that the movie is dedicated Robert Altman. Director Paul Thomas Anderson served as backup director for his mentor's final movie, "Prairie Home Companion." Both directors are known for their panoramic outlook and love of ensemble casts.

Karma Police
The film's score comes courtesy of Radiohead's lead guitarist, Jonny Greenwood. Critics loved it, but because it references other music, the Academy deemed it too "diluted" to receive a nomination.

Paging Miss Sunshine
Paul Dano was not originally cast to play both Sunday brothers. He was meant to have one scene as Paul Sunday, but then Anderson asked him to play Eli as well. (There are rumors that the other actor was intimidated by Daniel Day-Lewis's "intense" methods.)

Method Man
Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis has denied this: "People have such a misconception about what it is I do. They think the character comes from staying in the wheelchair or being locked in the jail or whatever extravagant thing they chose to focus their fantasies on."

There Will Be Bowling
The final scenes of the movie take place at the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, the former home of real-life oil tycoon, Edward Doheny, who Daniel Day-Lewis's character is roughly based upon. The two-lane restored bowling alley used in these scenes was given away after filming.
