Viva La France!
Chocolate. Wine. Christian Louboutin. The French just keep giving us the good stuff.
If it's just one of those days when you're searching for inspiration or something new, we can guarantee that you're not going to find the answer hidden in the reruns of that Project Runway marathon on Bravo. (Sorry Tim!) Instead, why not head out of the house and into the Design District for some "French Kissin' in the U.S.A." at the Moore Space. Don't worry, it sounds a lot more hands on than it is.
The exhibition, which takes its name from an old Blondie song, is composed of works from eighteen emerging French artists, including new generation talents like Philippe Perrot and Tatiana Trouvé, who are relatively unknown outside of France. Their multi-disciplinary pieces offer sharp social commentary on a variety of subjects, such as the relationship between art and philosophy, the dependency of concept to form, and the idea of revolutionkey in Loris Greaud's explosive pieces, which were inspired by William Burroughs's famous quote, "Illusion is a revolutionary weapon." Many of the works also convey a sharp sense of humor, such as Petra Mrzyk and Jean Francois Moriceau's mixed media installation, "A View to Kill," which is composed of dozens of darkly funny monochromatic illustrations.
During the '90s, France dominated the international art scene, and now It's time to embrace their next generation of talent. So grab a baguette and some bon amis, and check out these new hot shots!
"French Kissin' in the USA" is on display through March 8th at the Moore Space, 4040 NE 2nd Avenue, (305) 438-1163.
