Fashion Week Spotlight: Katy Rodriguez
The Queen of Vintage serves up dramatic pieces with a large dose of va-va-voom.
Anyone who has stepped into New York or L.A.'s high-end vintage store Resurrection knows they're in for a visual feastwhich is not surprising, as Katy Rodriguez is one of their buyers. After branching out on her own and showing her eponymous debut collection for Gen Art's Fresh Faces in Fashion 2006, Rodriguez received critical acclaim and a loyal celeb fan base. Her sharp eye and love for vintage translates into the silk, jewel-toned, retro-inspired dresses that have become her signatureand will make anyone feel like an ingénue.
For her Fall 2008 collection, which we caught at Mark Seliger's studio, the emphasis was decidedly more grown up and sexywith barely a flouncy bow in sight. Some of our favorite pieces: the handful of fitted little black cocktail dresses with patent leather accents; a Sandra Dee-esque pair of cigarette pants paired with a cropped leather jacket; a scarlet satin shift with a high neckline and nipped in waist. Every piece was worn with scarlet tights and heels, which might sound odd, but really worked with the black-dominated palette.
Click below for Katy's answers to the Fashion Week Survey (for other surveys click here) we gave all of our favorite alums: a little homework about where the girl she designs for can be found dining, what she's listening to, who she's crushing on, what she's drinking and what nabe she calls home sweet home!
