Name the 'Stache, Win the Necklace
Two lucky readers will win a piece from Brooklyn jewelry designer Aaron Ruff's new collection.
The other day I got an interesting email from my friend, jewelry designer Aaron Ruff of digby & iona about his upcoming collection. It began a little something like this: As part of a new collection I'm working on (think gentlemen's goods with a bit of tongue and cheek), I came up with these carved mustache necklaces. The mustache itself is brass and the chains are sterling both with a nice antiqued patina. They function as a lovely piece of jewelry but can also be held up to the upper lip monocle-style for the extra statement or handy disguise!
His idea? To hold a contest where you guys will name the two necklaces pictured here after the historical or literary figure that you think each resembles the most. The winners will score the mustache of their choosing and the honor of having dubbed a piece in his line.
So, Aaron has laid down the gauntlet. Email him your best ideas here, and stay tuned for more pieces from his upcoming collection this spring. Aside from fun with facial hair, what can you expect? "Again, it's very Victorian-inspired, with a lot of military and nautical-themed pieces, as well," he told me. "So far, I know there's going to be an amazing octopus ring that wraps around your finger; a tiny, antique brass (full-functioning) telescope necklace; and some really cool stuff using compasses. I've got about three weeks to figure the rest out." We can't wait!
digby & iona is available at Catbird, 219 Bedford Avenue, (718) 599-3457.
