Nice Shades

"My art is an expression of the infinite possibility that I find in L.A." - Jeremy Corbell

One of my favorite things is creative synergy—which is one of the reasons I work at Gen Art. It's also why I was excited to get an email from artist Jeremy Corbell about Vernissage: A Collectors Night, his benefit for H.O.P.E. that is bringing together talents from the worlds of art, fashion, film and music.

Fresh from a three month trip around the world, Corbell will display a retrospective of his work, including his new series, "Women in Sunglasses." What can you expect from his latest work? "As a mixed media artist I have been exploring the concepts of fear and love, and how they relate to feminine power," he told us. "How we mask or veil ourselves is my current fascination." During the evening Corbell will do a live Polaroid photo shoot with beauties sporting our fashion alumni, Cory Madley (a favorite of starlets like Mischa Barton and Carmen Kass). Doc filmmaker Sofia Balme will also be on hand shooting material for a piece on Corbell's art and his humanitarian efforts in Africa.

"I am an accidental artist," he explains. "I was a martial athlete for most of my life, when a number of years ago I became severely ill. I had a misdiagnosed respiratory illness that caused me to lose over thirty-five pounds, experience daily fevers, hallucinations, while having distorted and Technicolor-like vision. This forced me to look more deeply into the textures, tones, and messages within my surroundings. I found greater understanding in the singular moments that passed through my field of perception. Unable to continue competing and training, I was inspired to begin making art. Art was an accident—then it became my medium for personal revolution and evolution."

See the world through his eyes tomorrow night from 6 to 10 p.m. at Tripod Studios.

Tripod Studios is located at 608 Main Street, Venice. RSVP here to get your name added to the list.
