The Power of Two

Find out what everyone's so mod about when this art-pop duo plays Schubas.

The hilarious music video for "Polite Dance Song," a track from Los Angeles-based buzz band the bird and the bee is like a mesmerizing car wreck. You simply can't look away. And I mean that in the best way possible. So who are the brilliantly-warped (and apparently totally deadpan) minds behind this pretty ditty?

When Greg Kurstin (a keyboardist who has worked with everyone from Flaming Lips to Lily Allen) met songstress Inara George a few years back, they nerded out over a shared love of jazz standards, and an electro-pop duo was born. After recording a dreamy, self-titled debut album, the pair garnered national attention last January when a remix their song, "F*cking Boyfriend," topped the dance charts. Go figure.

These days, the melody-lovin' twosome is touring their latest album, Please Clap Your Hands, and they're swinging into the Windy City to headline at Schubas tomorrow night. (Be careful. These guys are quiet, but totally catchy.) To enter to win a pair of free tickets to their sold-out show, send us an email here, and then read on to discover their five favorite duos in pop culture!

1. Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler
"I think I've watched every episode of Law & Order: SVU," says Kurstin. "I would love for us to be know as the Benson and Stabler of pop music some day."

2. Tim and Eric
"They're hilarious," he says. "And their show is genius. I love it!"

3. Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff
"These pioneers of Philadelphia soul wrote and produced so many great songs, such as 'Me and Mrs. Jones,' 'Back Stabbers' and 'If You Don't Know Me By Now.'"

4. Chip 'n Dale
"I like the fact that no matter what happens they remain so composed and polite," explains George.

5. Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell
"I defy anyone to watch these two tap dance together without smiling," she says.
