New Year's Resolutions

Ari Gold + Claw Money + Ken Courtney + Alison Sudol spill their guts.

This year I'm going to hit the gym more. Drink a little less Diet Coke. Stop shopping like it's my last day on earth and I'm using Monopoly money. All noble gestures, but admittedly, a little lame. Which got me thinking, what are some of Gen Art's favorite emerging talents going to do to improve themselves in the coming year? Read on for their better (and much more creative!) responses.

Film...Ari Gold, filmmaker and actor
His shorts "Culture" and "Helicopter" played our fest, and in a matter of weeks his first feature flick, "Adventures of Power," which also stars Adrian Grenier, will premiere at Sundance.
He says: "My resolution is don't panic! I've been making this film for two and a half years and barely took a day off, hoping that hard work would stop disasters. As I move toward my next project—under pressure from a business that expects non-stop activity—I hope to remember that the ticking-clock is only in my mind."

Fashion...Claw Money
This legendary graff-artist-cum-fashion-designer recently launched a line that includes hoodies, T-shirts, underwear, and totes; all feature her cartoonish "claw" tag and can only be found in small boutiques like Colette.
She says: "No more cheapo catalog shopping! I am guilty of looking at inexpensive clothing catalogs, thinking I am getting over on all the fashionistas in New York (who wouldn't dare to shop from these staples of America, such as Victoria's Secret or Delia*s), and then getting the box and being super disappointed by the botty booty! You get what you paid for, has never been so true."

Art...Ken Courtney of Just Another Rich Kid
His cheeky work, which ranges from golden McDonald's stirrers to Anna Wintour-slamming tees, questions our obsession with celebrity, mass consumption and brand names. Next up, a collection of pendants and charms dipped in gold and based around the concept of the seven deadly sins.
He says: "This year I'm going to overcome fear. Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of the unknown. Fear of making mistakes. No more fear in 2008. I'm going to trust my instincts and learn to follow them without letting logic and thoughts intervene and send me off target."

Music...Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy
With songs on the latest Starbucks holiday compilation and the "Dan in Real Life" soundtrack, serious play on VH1, and a brand new iTunes "Live Session" out, this flame-haired beauty has come a long way since we hung out with her last March at SXSW. (Watch Carrie Schupper's video interview here!)
She says: "Three things. I plan to worry less, learn how to knit, and be less of a messy little piglet."
