Rainbow Bright

The things this woman can do with a sheet of paper are going to blow your mind.

Miami local Jen Stark is a sculptor. But rather than using more traditional materials, like stone or metal, this emerging talent relies on brightly-colored construction paper to create her geometric and completely mesmerizing, 3-D works of art—look at one of her pieces and you'll almost feel like you're falling into a kaleidescope.

"I began making paper sculptures when I went to study in France for a semester," the artist, who is inspired by fractals, worm holes and MRI scans, has said. "Since I could only take two suitcases with me for five months, I decided to purchase art supplies when I got there. The euro was high and everything was pretty expensive, so I decided to get the cheapest but coolest looking thing in the art store—a stack of construction paper!"

Finally, something good comes out of this piss poor economy.

Each of Stark's pieces contains up to 80 layers depending on its size, and rarely include black, a color absent from most assortment packs. She delicately cuts each layer by hand using an X-Acto knife, a process that is tedious and at times, a little random. "I just cut a shape and slowly change it as the layers progress. With these kind of sculptures I usually don't know what the end design will look like." Somehow, we find that hard to believe...
