Your Mill Valley Film Fest Guide

From Craig's List love stories to a look at one of the most influential punk bands of the '80s, we've got a flick for you!

It's the 30th anniversary of the California Film Institute's Mill Valley Film Festival. What does this mean to you? For the next ten days you have the chance to check out more than 200 new films (many of them world premieres) from over 50 countries. Yeah, that's a lot of options.

To help you wade through all of the indie talent, we've come up with a short list of a few must-sees. Be sure to check 'em out, and shoot us an email if you stumble across a gem that you think we should cover.

The Darjeeling Limited
This latest piece of eye candy from Wes Anderson features Gen Art alum Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson as three estranged brothers working out their complicated family issues while on a train ride through India.

Control
This feature debut from director Anton Corbijn (which was awarded a special mention at Cannes) is the beautifully-shot story of Joy Division's Ian Curtis, told from his wife's perspective. Worth seeing for the musical performances alone.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss
This indie love story from director Alex Holdridge explores what happens when a lonely guy posts a "Misanthrope seeks Misanthrope" personal ad looking for a date on New Year's Eve. Our Senior Film Program Manager gave it two thumbs up.

Grace Is Gone
John Cusack shines in this quiet flick about a man who struggles to tell his daughters that their mom, a soldier in Iraq, has been killed. A stunning directorial debut from James C. Strouse; keep your eyes on this talent!
