Your Must Have Playlist for July
For this edition of the Must Have Playlist, we bring you ten picks from Doug Marvin of Brooklyn-based indie-pop band, Dirty On Purpose. We've been fans of these four guys ever since we heard their EP, Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow, and when they played our South By Southwest Festival showcase this year (watch the video!), it only sealed the deal. Check out the playlist below, and then download the songs from iTunes here.
- "Memo from Turner," The Rolling Stones
It's got a slinky rock groove as solid as any of their singles from the late '60s but hasn't been played to death. - "Bad Trails," Battles
Record of the year! This song sounds so much like Brian Eno, it's not fair. - "The Orchids," Califone
This one is dangerously sad and wistful. Approach with caution. - "When We Fall," Phosphorescent
Only the finest in beard rocklike your neighbors are having a party and you're trying to sleep. - "Hotcha Girls," Ugly Casanova
I've been alleviating my disappointment in the new Modest Mouse album by getting back into Isaac's pretty solo record. - "Apples & Oranges," Dogs Die In Hot Cars
Like a lot of Brit-pop bands, these guys were off the radar in the blink of an eye. They sound exactly like XTC, which makes them essential in my book. - "Night Majestic," Au Revoir Simone
I'd be way into this song even if my wife wasn't in the band and I didn't play drums on the track. - "Cassettesingle," Fujiya & Miyagi
A English trio with a Japanese name who sound German and broke through first in America. Globalism is pretty great. - "Farewell to All My Friends," Oh No! Oh My!
This is impossibly jaunty that makes me think of a young man cutting ties and setting sail for the New World. - "Me and My Arrow," Harry Nilsson
What's that you say? Still looking for Summer Jam 2007? You can thank me later.
