Chicago Film Fest: Joshua

The flick: Joshua
Brad (Sam Rockwell) and Abby (Vera Farmiga) have the perfect upwardly mobile life in Manhattan. Brad is excelling at his job, Abby takes care of the family, and their child Joshua is turning out to be the star prodigy of his private school. But things begin to unravel when Joshua is confronted with a baby sister, Lily. What starts with a couple of long nights with Lily slowly descends into madness...but how could anyone blame the prodigal son?

The director: George Ratliff
After graduating from the University of Texas film program, George moved to Costa Rica to write for a Central American news magazine and was a correspondent for Texas newspapers. Since returning to the States, he has written and directed features, shorts, and television programs. His credits include Hell House, which played the 2002 Gen Art Film Festival, and Plutonium Circus, which was named best documentary feature at the South by Southwest Film Festival.

Tom Reagan from Miller's Crossing—he might be a mean drunk, but I still think he's the coolest.

What historical time period would you visit and adapt into a film?
1200, Mongolia—a movie about Ghengis Khan's conquests and Xanadu—because my wife is obsessed with him.

What surprised you the most about making your film?
That I still honestly like everyone who was involved with it.
