Bucky Leaves Land of Talk!
Pulse hopped on the phone yesterday with Lizzie Powell, leader of three-piece buzzed about band from Montreal, Land of Talk. We're not posting the entire interview until next week, but in the meantime, we did think fans might be interested to hear that Bucky, their drummer, has decided to leave the band. Here's what Lizzie had to say about it:
"There's one big important thing I have to tell you. It's sad news. Bucky left the band. He was like, I don't want to be a rock drummer for the rest of my life. He's a jazz guy at heart. And he didn't like the touring. Just psychologically and physically, it's not good for anybody. His heart was in the music, but not the lifestyle, which I completely understand.
When he told me, I felt like, who the hell am I going to get to take his spot. This is a pretty special position. It's not just any music and it's a band, not my solo project. So we auditioned his friend Eric, and it was great. He already knew the whole EP by heart, and had been a fan of the band for ages. So now, Bucky gets to stay in Montreal, and get his old jazz gigs back from Eric. So it kind of works out. Recycling drummers.
Don't get me wrong. I'm putting on a front right now, and it was quite devastating, and I still sometimes wish I'd wake up in the morning and Bucky would call me and be like, "Okay, actually, I do want to..." I'm still in disbelief. Eric has such a good energy, that I'm sure it will be great. But Bucky sort of was Land of Talk. It's sort of like I don't recognize it."
Check back on Pulse next week for even more juicy details from our convo with Lizzieshe dishes about everything from the Montreal music scene to how she got L.O.T. hooked up with The Decemberists!
