Behind the Line: Petrosa Jewelry
Emerging jewelry designer Danielle Petrosa takes images of pop icons and turns them into earthy, '60s-inspired pendants, adorned with stones, beads and butterflies. We were insta-fans, and decided to email her to get the back story on the collection; read on for the detes!
What were you doing before you started designing jewelry?
I was mostly doing conceptual installation work. The jewelry grew out of my desire to give some portability to the work to reach a larger audience. I also worked in freelance art and design.
Do you have a muse?
So many...I have an ever-changing repertoire. Some constant favs; Al Pacino, Gena Rowlands, and The Gettys.
Where else do you look to for inspiration?
Film is my greatest inspiration, and the necklaces are a "greatest hits" from my past installation shows. I love the obsession created by films. I try to capture those fleeting, fading images and give them a new life.
Is there a story that unites your collection?
My last art show was entitled "The Second Woman" based on the John Cassavetes film, Opening Night. It was based on the concept that at some point in life youth dies and the second woman in us takes over. The collection tries to capture some of those pivotal moments.
What item from your collection could you not resist buying for yourself?
Since, I'm feeling very summer of love, I am enjoying my Alice B.Toklas necklace.
What is your best seller?
The Marianne Faithfull is having its moment.
Danielle's necklaces can be found at Show Pony in Los Angeles, or online here!
