Tokyo Police Club at Sea

We found our way to Town Lake behind the Hyatt for a paddleboat ride with Tokyo Police Club (sadly sans vocalist, Dave, who we later heard was jealous that he'd missed out on our fun!). I tied the threesome to my leg and sat on the dock as we chatted on a beautiful and sunny day in Austin. (And the last day of SXSW!)

Ontario natives, Tokyo Police Club started by accident. The four friends recalled with longing their days gone past of playing together, so they gathered back up in a basement and started to jam. The magic came back quickly and and TPC was born. Like a snowball, the buzz began to grow and handfuls of fans turned into a festival-full when Pop Montreal came calling. It was then Tokyo Police Club decided to pursue their dreams of a full-on life of rock musicians. Well-known for their lively, energetic and unbridled performances, they were quickly snapped up by Toronto's Paper Bag Records.

In April 2006, A Lesson in Crime was released to critical acclaim, and now the boys are ready to hit the road with their new friends—and fellow Gen Art faves—Cold War Kids. Watch our interview with them below!
