Film Festival Feature: Sharkwater

The filmmaker: Canadian-born Rob Stewart, is an award-winning wildlife photographer who spent four years traveling the world as the chief photographer for the Canadian Wildlife Federation magazines. His work underwater and on land has appeared in nearly every media form worldwide, from BBC Wildlife magazine to the Discovery Channel.

The flick: In Sharkwater, Stewart reveals the reality of sharks as pillars in the evolution of the seas. He takes the audience into the most infested waters in the world, where he teams up with a renegade conservationist to battle shark poachers in Guatemala. The ultimate result: pirate boat rammings, gunboat chases, mafia espionage, corrupt court systems and attempted murder charges that force them to flee for their lives.

See it: Saturday, April 14th

Read Rob's responses to our Big Three Questions below!
What movie character would you like to meet for drinks?
Yoda—I've got to master the Force sooner or later.

What historical time period would you visit and adapt into a film?
I'd go to 2999 AD, to show people the scope of impact humans have on the earth, and why its important to change our behaviors now, for a different future than the one we're hurdling toward.

What is the one thing that surprised you the most about making Sharkwater?
The thing that surprised me most during the creation of the film is how compassionate and caring people are, and that if made aware of a situation, such as what's happening with the oceans, we are capable of great change and action.
