Who's Famous Now?

In today's bubbling over culture it's hard to get the media to pay attention to you unless you are:

1. Rich

2. Dating someone who's already famous or rich

3. So incredibly talented/motivated/lucky that the boys in charge can't possibly ignore you.

Those are some tried-and-true formulas, unless you're Fahamu Pecou whose painted his way onto magazine covers, behind velvet ropes and walking the red carpet with models on each arm. We mean this literally. Pecou is a talented painter whose decided to use his art powers for a sly commentary on our current culture of celebrity. The project titled, "FAHAMU PECOU IS THE SHIT," takes on media and its representation of black men, fame and identity through one of media's many lenses: magazines. Fahamu's deep dive into media propaganda is a psychological thrill to say the least. His take on pop culture art is pointed and powerful. It's almost subversive. This is Warholian theory at its best.

For a prime example of what Fahamu is working to expose, you should check out Vibe's new cover featuring Sean Combs and the tagline, "The Ruler Is Back." Oh boy. We're not even going to get into what's wrong with that...

Maybe this Atlanta-based artist will get famous from this meta-like body of work. Well, we ARE writing about him. It's a back door that we're willing to support. Okay, so number 4 is - force a cultural realization and get famous. Worked forJT Leroy.
