The Brazilian Girls Beat
By Carrie Schupper, Gen Art's Music and Art Manager
Brazilian Girls are neither Brazilian nor all girls. But then again, you probably knew that. Hot off the heels of their self-titled debut, the trio is back with a new album "Talk to La Bomb." When I saw them play Webster Hall on Thursday night they proved that they're a quirky little group. The lead singer was carried on stage wearing a garbage bag sporting "Euro Trash" which she then peeled off to reveal a nude-colored body-stocking covered in mirrored gems and strategically-placed ruffles of tulle. The bassist ended the show by stripping down to his boxers, Meanwhile, his older sister who was standing next to me iwas shouting how happy she was that he had finally hit puberty. Ummmm, yes, unusual indeed. But, really, it's about the music, right?
Far from the stereotypical electronic band, they blur the lines and find their way through a mix of Peaches meets Berlin-electro meets beachy-bossa sounds. They have honed their individual style and it is unlike any other bands on the scene. The album begins with bouncy electronic-rock, flows into digital-ballads and their more beloved dance tracks. Talk to La Bomb comes together with a little tongue-and-cheek humor and a dash of complexity and always keeps us on our toes.
