Can't Stop. Won't Stop.

The DVD Takes On The Magazine

Forget the magazine. Two new series, Wholpin and Fly, are bringing you the information you need (and don't) by way of your DVD player.
A Wholpin is a cross between a killer whale and a bottlenose dolphin. Yes, it is a real animal and no, we have no idea why it's an appropriate name for a DVD magazine. Really, don't dwell on it. Just know that the first volume includes a Spike Jonze documentary that makes even snore-bore-Al-Gore exciting; a Turkish version of 70s sitcom The Jeffersons; plus a never-seen adaptation of an award-winning short story starring sexy Selma Blair. Volume two looks even better with outtakes of frothing at the mouth conservatives espousing on American values, which whether you agree with them or not, makes for hilarious imagery.

Fashion-o-philes get with, Fly. The premiere DVD, contains 14 editorial shorts, 6 interviews, and 9 music videos - all of which are about that all consuming topic - fashion. Contributors include the wily John Malkovich, Cosmic Wonder, Boudicca, plus Gen Art alums Zac Posen and art star Ryan McGuiness. Not bad for a first issue or, um... DVD.

Magazines are a tough business: crowded newsstands, expensive overhead, and the feeling that it's all been done before. Thankfully, human ingenuity has come to save the day.
