We can all agree that the Japanese are great at keeping their private little fantasies right below the surface of their daily lives. You know what we're talking about: vending machines offering panties—and we're not even going to go into the dirty little world of hentai. Photographer Joan Sinclair takes us farther into this world with a visual tour of Japan's private clubs.

With a lot of effort and persistence, Sinclair gained entry into this very elaborate world. Take a look at some of the images excerpted from her forth coming book, The Pink Box, featuring detailed set-ups for the actualization of a customers' fantasy: the fake train, the fake classroom, the almost extinct no-panty lounge.

Joan also took care to photograph the female employees of these little hot spots. She often shot during business hours, ducking between customers waiting for their turn. Make sure to look carefully at the photos to catch the tell-tale signs of a sex house, like prices posted on walls, timing devices, and bottles of lotion.
